Spark Plug question for 5.4 owners

I have a question for Ford 5.4 owners. My 2003 is at 84,000+ miles. I've heard horror stories on changing plugs on these motors. I know they are supposed to be good for 100,000 miles, but I'm getting close.

Would you do your own replacement? Or would you let a shop do it? I don't want to break one off, nor do I want them to and hit me for a bunch of extra money to replace them.

Re: Spark Plug question for 5.4 owners

Good question Jerry. I don't have a 5.4 but my 2004 is well over 100k and I've never changed the plugs. Thanks for the reminder.

What's the problem? Aluminum head and they sieze in the head?

Me, I would try myself. I am guessing it would be best to do this job on a cold engine? Like get somed dry ice and somewhow hold the ice on the spark plug, so it shrinks? Maybe a 3/4" diameter heater hose?

I think that is what the problem is with the 5.4.

The plugs have also been known to blow out of the head too.
