So how did they fare with Irene? Oyster Bay is on Long Island, right?

Re: Pleasure Palace Bar & Grill

They sure are having a lot of flooding east of us. We got almost no rain but a lot of wind. Knocked some of my corn down and blew over the wife biggest sunflower. We had to stop and gather tomatoes as they are ripening and starting to split with the recent rain.

Oyster Bay is on Long Island but when dad retired he moved back to the Valley. I do wonder about the people there.

Re: Pleasure Palace Bar & Grill

There just does not seem to be much interest lately. Doc is asking for suggestions for a new theme for the forum. I have been extremely busy lately with trying to get some crops in and others planted plus harvesting in the garden and canning. Won't let up for a while it seems. Today was the mad scramble to get plants in before it frosts.

That's sad because we were having a lot of fun here. Maybe it will pick up in a little while. Sure hope so.

Re: Pleasure Palace Bar & Grill

I have been spending evenings in the yard, in the shop, etc. Same with weekends. Summer and fall aren't good times to catch me in the house during my off hours.

Hopefully, when winter hits, we can all spend a bit more time here.

Re: Pleasure Palace Bar & Grill

I came out of retirement to do a remodel in another town so I am only home on the weekends . I spend most of that sleeping before heading out on Sunday afternoons again . I hope to be done in another month or less .

Re: Pleasure Palace Bar & Grill

I'm getting tired of making my own drinks. Hope you get that remodel done pretty soon Big Al. Got to get this joint open again. Dust and spider webs all over the place and NO, I'm not going to clean it up all by myself!

Re: Pleasure Palace Bar & Grill

I think I washed down the river with all the rain we had since yesterday. Had little streams running out of the hayfields and down my lane. May need a truck load of stone to fix things up. They even closed the interstate just east of us for flooding.

Re: Pleasure Palace Bar & Grill

We could use a little of that out this way. Rainy season doesn't start for a couple of more months. In the meantime it is fire season and the hills are dry. Pretty soon we'll have the Santa Ana's start to blow and then we really have to watch it.

Re: Pleasure Palace Bar & Grill

I am glad the only fire season we have is late spring before things green up. If it is dry and windy around the end of April we have a few. Folks burning brush and turkey hunters and trout fisherman start almost all of them. I don't miss that part of being a firefighter at all. We have water everywhere right now. Even the yard has water in many places.

Re: Pleasure Palace Bar & Grill

People laugh at our Los Angeles river but until the Army Corps of Engineers got it under control it would wash away many a home. We have a definite rainy season and every year somebody gets too close to the river. Then the fire departments swift rescue teams go to work. Sadly they don't always rescue the person. The cold and fast moving water overpowers them.

Re: Pleasure Palace Bar & Grill

Big Al is still goofing off working and hunting. We are in winter prep mode and the cows go to butcher at the end of the month. Then I can shutdown the barn water and drain it all. Waiting for the Amish to come cut my second load of wood. Most of the sawmills closed up so slab wood is hard to come by. Hope to turn the chickens loose in the garden in another week after we harvest late peas. They will stay there for a few weeks till we start getting too cold or snow. Then I move the henhouse in the barn and set up the dog pen around it. I have a big pile of lumber to move to make room for them first.

Re: Pleasure Palace Bar & Grill

I guess everyone else is doing the same thing. Yesterday this big city gal pruned and weeded in the front yard. I filled two big trash barrels with the stuff.

The nice thing about being in SoCal is that I can garden year round. So far I've planted various kinds of lettuce and winter tomatoes. Later this week I'l plant cabbages, broccoli, cauliflower, beets, spinach etc. All of the winter crops.

Re: Pleasure Palace Bar & Grill

With the price of veggies going up I am planting a lot at home. DH did not want to work the garden plots in the community garden but he's doing a great job here at home.

Re: Pleasure Palace Bar & Grill

mine is all melted away. Big Al should be getting hammered in the next day or so. Got snowed on a lot this weekend while cutting wood but got it done for this winter. Heading south to Virginia tomorrow and it is to be sunny and and 60 degrees. Just going to drive a truck back so won't be there long.

He's back. He found his way home even though I changed a bunch of the road signs in Virginia.

He has a thread with both trip pics and pics of Bobcat's new vehicle.
