Chrysler dealership closings

Anyone here look at the list of Chrysler dealerships slated to be closed?

Some of them don't surprise me, there are a couple large ones that have a reputation for being the stereotypical high-pressure dealership and they probably won't be missed.

The one that caught me off guard was the dealership where we bought our Grand Caravan on Tuesday is on the list.

I think they want the affected dealers closed in 30 days.

Re: Chrysler dealership closings

No kidding, you just bought it Tuesday and then they announce the closings?

Its weird, they are not taking geographic location into it. We have 3 Chrysler dealers and all three are on the list. That means the closest dealer will be 70 miles away, if they don't close also.

How will they save money by closing these dealerships? The dealerships had bought a franchise and bought cars wholesale from them. No overhead to Chrysler that I can see.

Re: Chrysler dealership closings

I understand some of the closings...
Chrysler has been encouraging separate Dodge, Chrysler, and Jeep dealerships in the same town to merge or combine for the last few years.

For example, if a Dodge dealership is closing, the Chrysler-Jeep dealer in the same city will be taking on the Dodge line. This is the case where I purchased.

I wasn't even thinking about the closing list coming out later in the week... some of the deals out there right now are too good to pass up.

Re: Chrysler dealership closings

They tried to target the under performing dealers. The ones that were losing money anyway or the ones that held cars 90-120-xxx days before they could sell them. Chrysler still held the note on those cars minus the floor plan money paid each month by the dealer.
We lost 7 dealers in a 50 mile radius.

GM's dealers starting getting their notification today.
