Storage Wars / Auction Hunters

I've seen a few of the Auction Hunter shows. While it is obvious all the units they buy are not loaded with valuable stuff, some of the units sure do pay off.

Have any of you seen these shows? Ever try to buy a storage unit this way? I know it's a gamble ... but it could pay off.

Re: Storage Wars / Auction Hunters

I have seen storage wars before. It is too much of a gamble for my limited funds anymore. I do notice more of the auctions advertised locally as folks lose their spaces for non payment. Sign of the times I guess.

Re: Storage Wars / Auction Hunters

We just started watching the show. I'd empty out my unit before I lost it. At least I'd get the valuables out of there while I could.

Some people plain don't care, Leni. That, and the fact that most places, when the payment defaults, will put a second lock on the unit so you cannot get in until you pay. I haven't watched the show, though, I have too many other shows I watch LOL.

Re: Storage Wars / Auction Hunters

They seem to have auctions about every 60-90 days up here. They run the ads and see who shows up. In the summer months some guys buy a unit and by the weekend it is down at the flea market to see what they can make on things.

Re: Storage Wars / Auction Hunters

Lots of storage auctions in the northeast. You can check out auctions at "auctionzip.com, I think anywhere in the country.
My friend bought a 12x12 locker in Albany for $500, was full of closed boxes and in storage for 10 years. Looked great!!!!
. After hours of real fun opening up boxes, never knowing what is in the next. turned out to be 75% womens clothes and 25 % junk. Lets just say, salvation army did well. Did open one box of clothes and in 6 plastic bags is a jewelery box!!!!! gave it to my friend to open and it was jewelery with price tags on everything!!! Nothing worth more than $7.95.
Must say it is fun exploring the unknown, but better on someone else money!!! He will be lucky if he breaks even,
Good luck if you try it!!!

Re: Storage Wars / Auction Hunters

Yep, those guys on TV have way more losers than winners, but they only show the good ones. Sure can make you think there's gold in them lockers.

Welcome to Rustys Antiques!!!!!!!

Re: Storage Wars / Auction Hunters

I'm sure the odds of hitting gold are better than playing the lottery.

Have you ever attended an auction or bought a unit?

Re: Storage Wars / Auction Hunters

I have not bought any, but my friend does. He hits it lucky and gets coins, silver, rifles and some real good stuff. Biggest thing is being able to move and sell all the volume of stuff like furniture, clothes etc!!!! If i had the time and some extra cash, I would give it a shot!!!!

Re: Storage Wars / Auction Hunters

I think that the show is a hoax.. I can't see people from California coming to Massachusetts to bid on storage lockers. Besides, if it were a true auction, there would be a lot of other people there bidding. Those auctions have to be publicized, and they have to allow any and all bidders to bid, so long as they register, and put up a deposit on what they buy. I have been to storage auctions, and it is rare that there is anything of much value in them.

Re: Storage Wars / Auction Hunters

I agree, they are TV shows. And basically set up for show. The real auctions are the ones we can all go to and gamble on. Whats is a locker could be anything. Great or junk????

Re: Storage Wars / Auction Hunters

Guess there is always the salvation army and thrift shops for the stuff that you can't sell. At least then it's a tax write off.
